Sunday Funday Fashion

Last Sunday I attended and covered Get Trunk with ARTISTIC AYA. It was the hottest day of the year so far (I think), but that didn’t stop about 200 guests from putting on their new summer sandals and enjoying some indoor fun at LeftBank in Adams Morgan. The event featured a runway show and pop-up boutique of Dana Greaves’s wearable art, as well as hip music and free-flowing champagne. Proceeds from the event benefited D.C. charity Pediatric AIDS/HIV Care, Inc.

With a stylish crowd, cool tunes, and a stark yet comfortable space, this party wouldn’t have been out of place in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Nary a stuffy business suit nor cookie-cutter dress was in sight–though plenty of hot spring trends like bold jewelry and colorful maxi dresses were present. The fashion was unlike the fashion at other fashionable events I’ve covered, like the Jason Wu trunk show or the Young and the Guest List, where guests looked great but played it a little safe. But like those events, this event showed that D.C. does indeed have a unique sense of style that varies by neighborhood and social crowd. (This event was primarily filled with a U St./Adams Morgan/H St. crowd, though I did spot a few Georgetown regulars.) Now if only we could get rid of the boxy pantsuits and the other faux pas that make me want to cry on my daily commute to the day job…

Either way, check out some of my favorite ensembles at the event and take a few tips from them before you buy that sundress in the Ann Taylor LOFT window.

I kept eyeing this woman’s maxi dress because it was so bright and cheerful without being overwhelming. Her bold jewelry like the gold earrings and bangle are must-haves for summer, too.

I stopped Candice, center, because I loved her floral vintage dress. We discussed fashion and her work with Pediatric AIDS/HIV Care, Inc.

Do you like my shoes? This was snapped by Dakota Fine for Brightest Young Things.
